One of the most significant influences on a college student’s life is his or her family. Although your student may have left home, the Office of Student Conduct understands that the family’s role is essential for student success at Louisburg College. 我们建议 a few things to help prepare and support your student through the college experience.

Before your student arrives at Louisburg College:

  • Have a conversation about your expectations of how your student will conduct themselves away from home.
  • Discuss the expectations the college has of their behavior. Look over the Student 手册 & Student Code of Conduct to become aware of the policies & 标准.
  • Discuss with your student the need for accountability and accepting both the positive and negative consequences of their actions.
  • Reassure them that we all make mistakes and what we learn from those mistakes is what is most important.

Once your student is at Louisburg College:

  • Continue your conversations about expectations.
  • Ask how they are doing in classes, making new friends, on their team, in a club or organization, and other areas.
  • Be prepared to have conversations about how your student is changing and growing in their beliefs and understanding.
  • If you believe your student is having challenges on campus, whether in or out of class, encourage them to seek assistance. You may need to help brainstorm ways to get support. 的 Office of Student Life often helps connect a student to appropriate resources.

If your student has or may have to go through the Student Conduct Process, here are a few suggestions:

  • Take a breath.
  • Understand your student is likely feeling scared, embarrassed, angry, or other emotions; you may also have the same feelings. Help your student and yourself put this incident into perspective.
  • 的 college operations on a preponderance of evidence standard, which means we determine 是什么 more likely than not to have happened.  ***This procedure is not a criminal process.
  • 的 Student Conduct Process is an educational proceeding.  学生 who are found responsible are assigned a conduct status and one or more educational sanctions. 的 college designed these educational sanctions to allow students to reflect on an incident, understand its impact on them and the community, and apply what they learned to future 的情况下.
  • Have a conversation with your student about what happened and see how that may have violated the college's policies and impacted them. You may also discuss how their actions did not meet your behavior expectations.

For questions regarding the process or the incident, please contact the Office of Dean of 学生 at (919) 497-1131. A staff member will go over the process with you and, if legally able, discuss the incident; however, privacy laws could limit what information they can share with someone other than the student.
